Music festivals have been an important part of the youngsters’ culture ever since the 1960s and they continued to grow in popularity by the decade. They represent the ultimate form of freedom combined with good music, friends, and non-stop partying. They are also a great place to experiment, meet new people from across the globe, and indulge in delicious foods that will ruin your diet and body goals.

Unfortunately, if you just decided to try this experience in 2018, find out that there isn’t too much time left. Some of the world’s most popular music festivals are already waiting for their 2019 edition, but there are still some hidden gems worth mentioning. Here are some of the festivals you can still go to if you hurry up and pack your bags.

Headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, the Afropunk Fest is a unique combination of music and fashion. It is perfect for those who put in a lot of effort to create the perfect festival outfit. The final festival to close the summer, Afropunk Fest will certainly gather plenty of interesting people, artists, and socialites.

Austin City Limits Festival (October 5 -14)

If you thought good music festivals will be over by the end of the summer, you clearly need to learn a lot more about the American culture. Austin City Limits is a highly popular festival that gathers dozens of thousands of people every year. Last year’s amazing performance of rapper Jay Z certainly set the bar high so we’re looking forward to this year’s surprises that include Metallica, Travis Scott, Arctic Monkeys, Paul McCartney, and Disturbed.

The festival is perfect for people who listen to various music genres, from rap and dance to rock, country, and R&B.

And when you’re not watching the live performance of your favorite band or artist, you can have a taste of the famous Texan hospitality. The Food Court area includes a wide selection of traditional and international dishes, as well as various options for vegans.

The story of a legend – ABBA

Many music bands have come and gone, but not that many are what we can call legendary ones. ABBA is certainly such an example, with its famous four members and the beloved hits released during the 70’s and 80’s.

The band is one of the most commercially successful acts in the history of popular music, topping charts worldwide between 1974 and 1982, and reaching countries such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United States.

The story

ABBA is an acronym of the initial letters of band members’ first names – Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. This success story began in the spring of 1969, when Björn and Benny met the two women who were to become their fiancées, as well as the other half of ABBA.

Agnetha Fältskog had released her first single in 1967 and was a successful solo singer, while Frida, who was of Norwegian origin but had moved to Sweden at a very early age, had already started her recording career as well.

Agnetha and Björn were married in July 1971, while Benny and Frida didn’t get married until October 1978.

In 1974, the group entered the Melodifestivalen with the song Waterloo, which took them all the way to the Eurovision finals in Brighton, England. The Eurovision Song Contest which took place on April 6th, 1974 turned out to be one of the most famous moments in the band’s history, as Waterloo won over the international jury.

After this moment, the single topped charts all over Europe, even reaching the Top Ten in the US, even though the Contest had no impact there. Their album of the same name also became a massive hit in Sweden. 18 months later, the band got another major worldwide hit with SOS. The song was included on their third album, named ABBA.

The single Mamma Mia of the same album brought the group at the top of the UK charts where it stayed for a total of nine times between 1974 and 1980. Mamma Mia was also the number one song for ten weeks in charts across Australia.

The end and the future

Given that sometimes success can be a tricky thing that can strain a relationship, both couples eventually divorced. Once this happened, the four talented artists realized it was no longer fun for them to work together, and ABBA disbanded in December 1982.

Although the band’s fans might still hope for a final reunion of the band, there’s a chance that this might not happen. On the other hand, it appears that ABBA’s members do have something in mind for the near future, so let’s just hope that their plans will work out fine and that we’ll enjoy some new ABBA music.
